Morskie Oko (Sea Eye)
Tatry, Poland
It seems those who have visited the Polish Tatras were wondering about that very lake. Why eye? Why sea? And those particularly curious could find a legend that the lake is connected to the sea by some underground canal. Many people turned deaf ear to the legend, because they do not believe in such stories. But one way or another, almost all of them were thinking of the following version: what if this is really an eye, a giant sea eye that the sea has put up here in the mountains, and it can really watch and follow us? And such thoughts are not far from the real state of things.
Morskie Oko is the very eye of the sea. It is hard to say which one - the mouth of the sea has not yet been found to ask it. And why the eye of the sea suddenly appeared in the mountains, and exactly these mountains, is also an open question. But, anyway, some travellers (and especially mountaineers) told how they observed from somewhere from above, a real such pupil suddenly appearing in the smoothness of the lake and beginning to move from side to side and examining everything around. Those who, at the time of the appearing of the eye, were not far from the lake and had time to approach it, said that at that moment the water in the lake became salty. From this they realised that the lake was nothing but the sea eye.
